spring-rethymno-1Spring is a wonderful time to be in out and about in Crete and Rethymno offers some especially attractive places where you can really be bowled over by its natural beauty. Here we provide a range of destinations you might like to visit to revel in Nature, as the season of growth envelops us and they are all within easy reach of the Rimondi Grand Hotel in Rethymno too!

Diving in Rethymno

Written by Basil Daniel on .

diving-rethymno-1aThe coastal waters around the Greek Islands are ideal for underwater adventures; warm (16-26 degrees,) mostly free of strong currents, and loaded with amazing flora and fauna. You can even see sunken manmade artefacts! With many places to receive training not far from our hotel in Rethymno and a large number of challenging dive sites for more experienced divers, this demanding activity could be the highlight of your trip!

wooden-scolture-rethymno-1For an interesting and absorbing day out, we can recommend the Wooden Sculpture Museum, which is located in a small sleepy village less than an hour’s drive away from our hotel in Rethymno. This combination of workshop and exhibition gallery showcases the lives work of one gifted artist. Allow yourself to be enthralled by the larger-than-life creations, and marvel at the fine detail and realistic poses of the people, animals and objects!

Off to Sea from Rethymno

sea-rethymno-1When on holiday by the sea, can you think of a better way to explore the surroundings than by hopping on a boat? Besides adorable seaside villages and tavernas, the island of Crete boasts numerous picturesque and clean beaches and other places of interest that are actually easier to access by boat than by road. The old Venetian port is a mere 10 minutes by car from our hotel in Rethymno and besides scheduled boat tours, individual boat rentals are also available. If you’re in a nostalgic mood, pick one of the wooden pirate ships to sail the seas in style.

Caves of Rethymno Melidoni

rethymno-caves-melidoni-1In the next in our series of Caves of Crete, we look at a cave in a pretty, quiet village not too far from our hotel in Rethymno, with some attractive dripstone formations, but also known for the stone cold proof of a gruesome history and of course, some great mythology. The small village of Melidoni is perfect for a lovely day trip from our hotel. It can also be paired comfortably with a look around nearby Arkadi Monastery and a trip to Bali Beach, which is only 8km away.
